Fact of the day: It was on this day in 1981 that the first IBM PC was launched. The machine was developed by a 12-strong team headed by Don Estridge. The PC had a 4.7 MHz processor and 16 k of memory.

Point to ponder: The first attempt to use wireless technology in wartime occurred in 1899 when the British were fighting in the Boer War in South Africa. This attempt was a failure as the two stations that were set up were unable to communicate.
