Fact of the day: It was on 12th April in 1606 that the Union Jack was adopted as the national flag of Great Britain. It was also on this day but in 1937 that Frank Whittle (later Sir Frank) ground tested the first jet engine designed to power an aircraft at a factory in Rugby, England
