There can be discussion about which type of device may be suitable for different circuits - this infographic summarises the differences.
The power MOSFET and IGBT are kings of power electronics. They are both really effective devices that are able to provide a significant level of performance improvement over previous devices that were available.
Although Silicon carbide and gallium nitride devices are now entering the arena, power MOSFETs and IGBTs still rule the roost in many areas.
But it is often necessary to determine which device suits the particular circuit design best.
Both devices have their areas where they excel, so I've created the infographic to summarise which ones can be used in which areas.
