Thermistors: NTC & PTC Comparison Infographic
Thermistors are essential components for sensing temperature and they are used in many applications from resettable fuses to temperature sensing & measurement. Find out all in this infographic.
Thermistors are easy to use, and low cost elements that are used in many temperature sensing applications.
There are two main types:
Negative temperature coefficient, NTC: With these components the resistance falls with increasing temperature.
Positive temperature coefficient, PTC: For these thermistors, the resistance rises with increasing temperature.
These thermistors can be used in a variety of circuits where temperature related performance is required. They can be used as resettable fuses, and for temperature sensing and measurement.
However it is essential that the appropriate type of thermistor is used, otherwise the circuit will be unable to fulfil is required function.
The major characteristics of thermistors: NTC & PTC are summarised in the infographic below.
