Fact of the day: It was on this day in 1862 that Adolphe Nicole, a Swiss watchmaker patented the chronograph which was able to give split-second timing of events.

Point to ponder: Sputnik, the first man made satellite to be launched into orbit around the earth was shaped like a sphere and had four radiating radio antennas.It functioned for 21 days sending out a distinctive "beep beep" signal from its on board transmitter.
