Fact of the day: It was on 8th April 1742 that Handel\'s oratorio The Messiah had its first public performance. King George appreciated it so much that he stood up as a mark of respect during the Hallelujah chorus. Others at the performance had to stand with him, and this tradition has been kept since that day.
