Fact of the day: It was in this month in 1917 that Lucien Levy in France made the first receiver using the superheterodyne principle for the elimination of atmospherics. It used a variable IF stage and not the fixed frequency IF normally used. It was also the day on which Albert Einstein, the famous physicist died in 1955.

Point to ponder: Total production of the type TM valve (tube) made in France during the First World War exceeded 100 000. By the end of the war they were being produced at a rate of over 1000 a day.
