Fact of the day: It was on 26th August 1873 that Lee de Forest was born. He later invented the Audion thermionic device, a triode tube or valve which subsequently enabled signals to be amplified.

Point to ponder: The first attempt to use wireless technology in wartime occurred in 1899 when the British were fighting in the Boer War in South Africa. This attempt was a failure as the two stations that were set up were unable to communicate.
